Vilseck Fish
2015
Jurassic Limestone
2.5' x 3' x 20'

The Vilseck Fish was created at the 2015 Pilsen Sculpture Symposium in Vilseck, Germany. Made from the very hard Jurassic Limestone of Bavaria the work is sited in this shallow stretch of the River Vils, accessible to people who are willing to get there feet wet.

The idea is that this fish was a very ancient soul living and swimming in the river that followed the Golden Road, an important medieval trade route from Nuremberg to Prague.

I imagined through the ages that this fish had seen many many things, things which were etched into his memory and embedded in his flesh.

He has since passed on and become a fossilized carcass on the banks of the ancient river, his memories emblazoned for the world to see..
